try to catch a general overview on the Romanian contemporary art market

Romanian art market

there are some questions and thinking which I had with some friends, new Romanian art collectors about Romanian art market, pricing and quote… I hope by this, we could have a better overview on it, specially on contemporary art. Is this quote made only by the rich guys? how much want they to pay for a piece of art? Does a Grigorescu’s painting worth outside Romania as in Romania (please for those who didn’t hear of him, see some links: http://www.tudor-art.com/main.php?an=&category=artist&language=0&id=2860&dim=&order=anul%20desc&limit=0&firstname=&lastname=&lucid=&idx=&idc=&selx=&disciplina=&language=1&ses=da

there are some questions which we put on this new blog, hope you will contribute in!

  1. Look at the exhibition of 85 years old painter Horia Damian at Gallery Raphael 12 in Frankfurt/Main, Germany, on until december 8. Wonderful paintings of the old roumanian master up to 60.000 € for the biggest. I wrote the introduction to the comprehensive catalogue to the show.
    Galerie Raphael, Braubachstraße 12, 60 311 Frankfurt, Germany, tel 0049-69-729037, e-mail info@galerieraphael12.com, http://www.galerieraphael12.com

  2. The exhibition of Damian shows that some roumanian artists like artists from other countries have a solid quota on the international art market.

Thank you for your message. Recently I heard a price for a painting of Grigorescu (Romanian classic master, member of the group so called “School from Barbizon” France, 1838-1907 and one of the founder of Romanian modern painting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicolae_Grigorescu ) at the price of 60.000 Euro. We still have in function a communist law called aprox: law of national patrimony, and by this you can’t sell abroad Romania any piece of art named by the jury of this office. I think by this, the Romanian art in general doesn’t have a good representative image and quotas outside Romania. In fact, which artist are more valuable? because the price for it it’s given by the financial power of each market. In this cause, Romanian and German. See also this link:

is the same, but with the Arabs.
What is your position? Should be sell for example this painting outside? could the owner received a bigger price elsewhere, where the artist in known? or with a good advertising? questions, questions…
    thanks,
